The Oscars 2007 take place on Sunday 25th February and already William Hill are paying out winnings to punters who backed Helen Mirren to win Best Actress. She is a remarkable 1/20 to take the Oscar with Coral, with Kate Winslet second favourite at 14/1. Best Actor should head to The Last King of Scotland with Forest Whitaker expected to repeat his recent BAFTA’s success. He’s 1/8 to take the Oscar followed by Peter O’Toole who’s 9/2.
In the supporting sections, Eddie Murphy is 4/7 favourite for his role in Dreamgirls, but Alan Arkin in Little Miss Sunshine at 9/5 could spring one of the night’s surprises. It’s more clear cut in the supporting actress category with Jennifer Hudson for Dreamgirls expected to take the Oscar.
Best Movie is between Martin Scorcese’s The Departed at 11/10 and Little Miss Sunshine at 2/1. The Departed should take this award, but you can’t discount Little Miss Sunshine and it’ll be a close call. Scorcese may have to be satisfied with Best Director where he’s 1/6 favourite, but shock BAFTA winner Paul Greengrass who directed the 9/11 movie United 93 is 11/1.
